The dedication and thorough investigation of Sergeant Xhanti Neti of Steenberg Detectives into the circumstances of a murder, ensured that 28 year old Byron Davids was slapped with a lengthy sentence earlier this week in the Wynberg Regional Court. Davids, accused of killing 37-year-old Denzil Thorpe on 15 September 2018, for allegedly impregnating his girlfriend was arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on the same day as the murder.
Davids will spend the next 18 years behind bars after he was sentenced 18 years for murder, 15 years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition. The three sentences will be served concurrently.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen KE Jula commended Sergeant Neti for his investigation and contribution for removing an armed criminal from the Steenberg streets.
