30 Old Women Arrested For Lying To SASSA. A 41-year-old lady is also part of the apprehended people.
A group of old ladies has been arrested by the authorities’ special operation called “Project Combat.” The ladies are allegedly a group of thieves. The Free State policeman, Brigadier Sam Makhele, says 30 people are incriminated for cheating the government via social grants.
The incriminated individuals will appear at court on a case of swindling. “Project Combat began in July 2018. The project was based on the crime information that was obtained due to the embezzlement done by some SASSA receivers who were registering for government grants.
A 41-year-old lady is also part of the apprehended people. The woman was supposedly behind the whole scam. Brigadier Sam Makhele said she was giving individuals fake doctor’s referral letters. The letters made it possible for people to sign up for grants. The lady would make people pay approximately R200 for the work she does.
Numerous fake documents and stamps were discovered at her home. Brigadier Sam Makhele said: “It is alleged that this woman made unsuspecting victims to believe that she was a doctor’s assistant who was authorised with performing these duties whilst the doctor was on leave.” The South African Police Service’s Lieutenant- General, Moeketsi Sempe, says the examination is still under way.
