On 6 January 2018 at about 13:00, private divers who were visiting Sterkfontein resort, discovered a Toyota Tazz that had submerged in the dam and alerted the police. A private towing company pulled the vehicle out of the dam.
Inside the vehicle, three bodies that were confirmed to be of the 35-year-old mother and her three sons, aged 13, 8 and 5 were found. They were positively identified as a family from Lusaka section in Makwane Village. The deceased were last seen in the resort on the 5 January 2018 at about 21:00.
An inquest docket has been registered for further investigation.
