Police officials have saved three teen girls that were kidnapped, in the process they also apprehended five Ethiopian suspects. The suspects were apprehended on the basis of human-trafficking, abduction and extortion. The Ethiopian suspects were apprehended on Thursday by the Brixton and Mayfair area.
The suspects were arrested after they allegedly kidnapped three Ethiopian teens by the weekend, according to Captain Loyd Ramovha, the Hawks spokesperson. The Hawks spokesperson states that the teenagers were allegedly “smuggled into the country and kept in Gauteng.” The Ethiopian suspects reportedly got in touch with the teens’ parents and told them that they want R50 000 (which totals to R150 0000) ransom money for each teenage hostage’s release. The Hawks team then managed to trace the five suspects.
“The Hawks team traced and arrested the five suspects who are also Ethiopian nationals on Thursday afternoon. The group is expected to be charged for human trafficking, kidnapping and extortion, whilst additional charges have not been ruled out pending their court appearance,” says Captain Loyd Ramovha. The girls have been sent to a secure location while authorities keep on examining. By August two Indians, were at the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on basis that they were human trafficking two men from Bangladesh into South Africa. The man are thought to have noticed that they were being trafficked once the men asked their family members to release ransom for their release.
