Camperdown Regional Court convicted and sentenced the accused (33) to life imprisonment for raping a seven-year-old boy at Inchanga area. The incident was reported to the Inchanga police station after a seven-year-old boy was raped by the accused from the area in May 2016. On 2 May 2016, the victim (7) was approached by the accused and was raped in the house while his mother was away. Community members caught the accused while raping the victim and called the police.
A case of rape was opened at Inchanga police station and the accused was immediately arrested. He was charged for raping the victim. The docket was transferred to the Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. Statements were obtained from witnesses and other evidence to make the case stronger and docket was sent to court.
In another conviction, the Empangeni Regional Court convicted and sentenced Julio Mapsangane (38) to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 55-year-old woman at Empangeni area. On 14 October 2017 the victim was drinking at Gxigxi area, Empangeni with her friends. She later fell asleep and was raped by the accused.
A case of rape was opened at Empangeni police station and the docket was transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit. Later the accused was arrested and charged for rape.
