The imprisoned murderers Phillip Schutte and Pieter Doorewaard were sentenced to 23 and 18 years by the North West High Court on Wednesday.
Judge Ronald Hendricks said the acts of the two individuals who killed the teenager, Matlhomola Mosweu, were a disgrace and appalling.
Mosweu was murdered after being held responsible for stealing sunflowers, it wasn’t clear how many sunflowers or how much the sunflowers cost. The judge stated the side of the sole witness in the case, Bonakele Pakisi, a gunshot was heard at the sunflower field. Schutte came out of a Bakkie, Doorewaard was on a quad bike.
“You picked up the deceased from the van and threw him on the ground. It was not necessary,” said Hendricks.
Hendricks stated that the victim was kidnapped, assaulted, forced to drink alcohol and was pointed at with a firearm, his cellphone was taken away from him.
The pair was found guilty in October 2018 of murdering Mosweu, the previous year, after holding him responsible for stealing sunflower heads.
