Alexandra Residents Say They Won’t Hurt Foreign Nationals During The #AlexTotalShutDown Protest. The protestors have guaranteed that they will not hurt foreign nationals in the protest.
People living in Alexandra, Johannesburg, went to the streets on Wednesday to protest for services in the township. The protestors involved in what is called the #AlexTotalShutDown say that the service in Alexandra is very bad. The Alexandra people are going to different areas of Johannesburg to make sure that they are head.
The protestors have guaranteed that they will not hurt foreign nationals in the protest. One of the protest’s representatives, Sandile Mavundla, told eNCA that none of the protestors provoke any foreign nationals. The representatives closed off every in and out area of the Alexandra township.
The mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, has been asked by the people in Alexandra to be present and hear their cries. Along with Mashaba, the Gauteng Premier David Makhura has also been asked to be presence. The residents say that foreign nationals have used illegitimate places, to live in. They are also protesting against the poor service of waste for the people of Alexandra.
A representative of the Alexandra Chamber of Business says that crime and poor services in the township mean that big investors would not want to invest in Alexandra. Some of the residents are communicating with the police to ask them to refrain from shooting them with rubber bullets.
The residents of Alexandra have been seen to be burning tires and also causing commotion because of traffic. The residents say that they do not want to speak to the Johannesburg MMC for public safety, Michael Sun.
