Students At Eldorado Park Arrested For Weapon Possessions. Brigadier Van Dyk says the weekly searches were decided upon after it was realised that there is a huge substance abuse epidemic.
Three students from an Eldorado Park high school have been apprehended for reportedly selling weapons at the school. The children from the Eldorado Park high school in Johannesburg were arrested during a search that was done by the South African Police Service. Brigadier PH Van Dyk from the Eldorado Police station told DRUM that the police do the searches every week.
Brigadier Van Dyk says the weekly searches were decided upon after it was realised that there is a huge substance abuse epidemic. He also says the weekly searches are part of the collaboration that the police station has with the Department of Education. Brigadier Van Dyk says, “These raids are part of the police station’s mandate for this year’s partnership with the Department of Education as well as other stakeholders.”
The brigadier spoke about the processes that are undertaken when a student is apprehended by the time of the searches. He says that they go to the police station with the learner, so that they can open a case against the learner. They then let the person who takes of the child live with the child till it’s time for the learner to be due in court, where a verdict will be reached.
Two students were also apprehended when they were found with a weapon and illegal drugs. Wine, cigarettes, knives, lighters and dangerous weapons are some of the stuff that were taken at the time of the searches.
