Eager to protect the community from criminals, members attached to Kensington police conducted crime prevention patrols in Albacore Street during the early hours of this morning, when their attention was drawn to three suspicious males on foot.
Upon approaching the suspects for further investigation, they started to run while one suspect produced a firearm and pointed it at the pursuing members. One of the members reacted and discharged his firearm in self-defence.
The suspect, who was found in possession of .357 Rossi revolver and six rounds of ammunition sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was arrested. Once charged, he is due to make a court appearance in Cape Town on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the pointing of a firearm. His two accomplices managed to evade their arrest.
