The vigilance and swift response from members attached to the West Coast K9 Unit and Saldanha police led to the arrest of three armed robbers shortly after a shop was robbed at gunpoint. Late last night police reacted on a broadcast of a business robbery in Saldanha and conducted a search of the area. The three suspects were spotted in their getaway vehicle, a Ford Bantam bakkie. They were forced to stop and were arrested and found in possession of a 9mm pistol and the cash that was robbed from the shop. The firearm was reported stolen during a house robbery in Vredenburg last month. The suspects aged 24, 25 and 26 are expected to make their court appearances in Vredenburg once they have been charged.
In an unrelated incident, also last night a 30-year-old suspect was arrested in Lavender Hill for being in possession of an unlicensed .38 Special revolver. Members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were on patrol when they spotted the suspect under suspicious circumstances. He is expected to make his court appearance in Wynberg once he has been charged.
