A man’s car was hit with cement while he was driving on the N1 under the Jean Ave Bridge in M34. The man, Schalk Jacobsz, says people threw cement from the bridge and on his car. As the man stopped his car to wipe the cement dirt from his car, 6 men approached his car unexpectedly. The 6 men were sprinting towards the car, luckily the man could get away from the men.
The trend has been going on for a while. In Pretoria drivers that were driving on the N4 under Simon Vermooten Road bridge have had their cars hit with rocks so that they become distracted. In 2018, one rock thrower in KwaZulu-Natal by the name of Nkosinathi Mthalane was sentenced to 10 years after he pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
The trend became more prominent last year in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. Two victims were killed by this phenomenon. Abdur Raheem and his brother Amina Haffajee died when a rock smashed through the car’s windscreen on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal. Other victims such as Schalk Jacobsz were lucky to make it out with only minor injuries.
