People at Menlyn Maine, a complex in Pretoria, have been evacuated after a huge issue. A man has alarmed people by saying that he will explode the mall. The man went to the Absa bank at Menlyn Maine and allegedly requested R10 million from the bank’s employees.
The man directed the attention of numerous security forces to the area. The bomb squad was part of the security forces that arrived to the location. The Emer-G-Med crew was part of the first responders. The crew acknowledged that the shopping area was being examined for bombs at 2pm. The issue is still being looked into. The man allegedly says that the explosive devices were tactically placed inside the Absa bank. The authorities are examining the whole complex. The people who were at the complex were moved to a place far away from the bank. The South African Police Services (SAPS) released a statement around 2:40pm, emphasising that the area is not secure yet. They also went on to say that they did find a device at the shopping complex.
“On Tuesday 17 September 2019 at around 11:15 an unknown man in his fifties entered a bank at the Menlyn Maine Shopping Centre. He handed a note over to the bank teller who assisted him. The note contained a threat to say that there is a bomb planted inside the bank,” reads the SAPS statement. The guards at the mall moved the people away from the shopping centre immediately, the SAPS apprehended the man in the bank. The bomb disposal and K9 units are still examining the device that they discovered.
