17-Year-Old Gymnast Becomes The First In South Africa To Win Gold Internationally. 17-year-old gymnast, Caitlin Rooskrantz, has made history by being the first South African gymnast to get a gold medal for her bar routine at the FIG Challenge Cup in Hungary, where she was competing with other contestants from around the globe.

17-year-old gymnast, Caitlin Rooskrantz, has made history by being the first South African gymnast to get a gold medal for her bar routine at the FIG Challenge Cup in Hungary, where she was competing with other contestants from around the globe. She’s the first South African gymnast to have received a gold medal at an international gymnastics competition. She was ahead of Spanish and British competition at the bars.

She says she has worked towards her time of success on an international stage. The 17-year-old gymnast says, “I have worked my entire career for that moment of true success on one of the biggest international stages, so when I did the routine of my life and realised I had won, I was totally overwhelmed but so proud of myself.” This is not the only gold that she has. Caitlin Rooskrantz is also the present African champion at bars and the 2018 champion in South Africa.

The 17-year-old states that she started doing gymnastics at the age of 6, when her family friends would suggested that she go ahead with it because she always springing on the furniture. She is a grade 12 student at Parktown Girls’ High School, she says that she worked and attempted to concentrate on her school work and her gymnastics career. Caitlin Rooskrantz says, “Having achieved this at such a young age is exciting because I feel I still have many good years of good gymnastics left and I’m hoping to build on this achievement to go on to even greater heights and more international gold medals.”
