Police officials have opened a case of incautious and neglectful driving . This happened after a truck driver failed to manage the truck and impacted about 20 vehicles on Thursday night at Flanders Mall in KwaZulu-Natal. A CCTV video recording of the impact showed the truck steering off the M41 road, thereby hitting the several cars that were parked at the mall.
Captain Nqobile Gwala, the police spokesperson, says, “The driver of the truck sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.” Netcare911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst, in a statement says, “All the patients were treated on the scene and transported by ambulance to hospital for further treatment.” The Netcare911 spokesperson states that according to reports the truck stopped near the shopping mall’s wall.
“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a truck transporting resins lost control, crashing through at least twenty cars, coming to rest next to the wall of a shopping centre. Medics arrived on the scene to find one car stuck under the truck with no access to emergency workers to determine if there are any occupants,” says the Netcare911 spokesperson. According to Shawn Herbst two individuals had minimal injuries. The driver was thought to might have been driving at a high speed on wet terrain and lost control as he was trying to curve.
