Watch! Young Boys Hop Onto Moving Freight Train. A video recording of an 11-year-old young boy hopping onto a freight train has been taken by one of the train employees.
A video recording of an 11-year-old young boy hopping onto a freight train has been taken by one of the train employees. The video, taken in KwaZulu-Natal, shows the boy riding on a Transnet goods train while it is moving. The boy was then joined by some of his other friends. The boy was reprimanded by one of the employees but he then showed the man a middle finger and carried on doing his thing. This is known as ‘train surfing’. The 11-year-old young boy was apprehended by police officials during the weekend, according to Steve Harris, the general secretary of the United Transport Union.
However, ‘news24’ reports that Captain Nqobile Gwala, the police spokesperson, states that the case of that sort was not rolled at Verulam police station on the issue. The general secretary of the United Transport Union says the 11-year-old encouraged his friends to join him on hopping on the moving wagons of the train as it was passing by the KwaZulu-Natal northern line. Steve Harris says children take advantage because trains on the path have to keep to a speed limit of 15km/h because they are going into a place where pedestrians cross the railway line without looking or don’t notice the speed of the approaching train.
Steve Harris says, “Parents must teach their children that it is no joke playing near a railway line, not even to mention a moving train. These children are not only putting their own lives at risk, but also the lives of the train driver and the train assistant as they are forced to watch the children playing on the wagons instead keeping their eyes on the railway lines and on signals they are passing. To make matters worse, it is the train driver and the train assistant who will be charged if anything happens to the children, putting their jobs in jeopardy.”
