A video of a mother who gave birth in a taxi made rounds on the internet. The Gauteng health department says the baby is healthy. The event happened last week Tuesday at the Chiawelo Community Health Centre in Soweto. A man in the video that has gone viral can be heard screaming that a nurse allegedly not wanting to help the lady who was in the taxi with the baby.
The man additionally stated that he is arguing against the woman’s statement that they deliver babies at the labour ward and not in a vehicle. “I am not fighting , I am fighting her statement that she won’t help her because they deliver at labour ward, not inside the car, the baby is already here…And she’s telling us that she won’t help her,” says the man. The health department did not agree to the allegations that the nurse denied assisting, according to reports. The chief director of the Johannesburg health district, Mogeru Morewane, said the security guard at the labour ward told the nurses about the woman who delivered in the taxi.
“The nurse went to the car where the patient delivered to assess the condition of the patient,” says Mogeru Morewane. When the nurse arrived by the mother she realised that the mother and baby were not separated. She then went to go get the equipments needed to help the woman, according to the chief director of the Johannesburg health district. One week after, the health department met the family of the woman and says that an examination would be started. “The reports have been received from nurses who were on duty , an an investigation will be resumed for fact-finding,” says Mogeru Morewane.
