KING WILLIAMS TOWN – An operation that was conducted at Fort Beaufort by members from ACI, ACTT & VCIU task (Anti-corruption and Anti-Corruption Task Team, Vehicle Crime identification Task Team) teams yielded the desired results when three male suspects were arrested and charged for fraud. They were arrested on 28 April 2020.
Two of the arrested suspects are police officials (one recently retired) and the third suspect is a member of the public.
They were arrested for Fraud, Forgery and Uttering and Defeating the ends of justice.
These crimes were committed from various parts of the Province. The suspects allegedly colluded together to create false documents for an accident scene with a traffic vehicle and also assisted in the registering a false insurance claim.
Investigation was completed and submitted to DPP and instruction was received to bring accused before the court. They were detained and charged in Fort Beaufort SAPS as follows.
1. Andile Jikajika, 30yrs (private person)
2. Sivuyile Zake (43) (recently retired Fort Beaufort SAPS member) and
3. Luthando Samora Sogobile (43) (Active member-Doringkloof SAPS).
All suspects appeared at Fort Beaufort Magistrate’s court today, 29 April 2020. All three (3) and each was bailed out for R1000 each. The next court date is 30 June 2020.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the meticulous investigation and its outcome. “We must eliminate corruption and crime without fear or favour,” said the Provincial Commissioner.
