DURBAN – On Monday, 05 October 2020, the Verulam Regional Court sentenced Richard Zulu (52) to life imprisonment for murder, four years for possession of unlicensed firearm and one year for possession of unlicensed ammunition.
His sentence came after the court hear how he killed a 33-year-old woman Zameka Rhafuza. On 03 January 2019, Tongaat police were summoned to a scene of murder at a farm in Hilltop. Upon arrival at the scene, a body of Rhafuza was found lying in a pool of blood. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds on the upper body.
A case of murder was opened for investigation at Tongaat SAPS. The detectives commenced their investigation and Zulu was arrested at the crime scene. He also sustained a gunshot wound on his left jaw when he tried to commit suicide after the incident. The investigation revealed that Rhafuza was fatally shot during a domestic dispute by her boyfriend. The accused made several court appearances until he was sentenced.
