GAUTENG – Two suspects aged 35 and 43 are appearing before the Hillbrow Magistrates Court on corruption and extortion charges on today.
It is reported that the suspects allegedly solicited a R67 000-00 gratification from the complainant to reduce Tsogo Sun Hotel’s property rate bill account from R323 000-00 to a lesser amount.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects, who introduced themselves as Ncube Incorporated Attorneys employees contracted by City of Johannesburg to collect debt owed by its customers, demanded a further more compensation in order to reduce the utility bill again to R12 000-00.
Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Germiston and Johannesburg conducted a sting operation at a restaurant in Parktown, Johannesburg on Thursday. The suspects were immediately arrested in possession of R10 000-00 in cash, duly charged for corruption and extortion.
Investigation continues on this matter.
