Continued efforts to eradicate drug trafficking and to rid communities of illegal and unlicensed firearms, once again yielded positive results with the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of about R62 715.00, a unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the subsequent arrest of a 27-years-old man from Plettenberg Bay, early this morning.
Members attached to Plettenberg Bay Visible Policing unit responded to an complaint of someone who threatened and pointed a firearm towards the complainant. On arrival at the scene near a tavern in Qolweni, Plettenberg Bay, the suspect took off and ran away when he noticed the SAPS members approaching. After the complainant disclosed the identity of the suspect, the members chased him down and upon searching him, found an unlicensed firearm in his possession. He was arrested and the weapon and magazine carrying live rounds was confiscated.
Further investigation took members to a house in The Crags where he stayed. They conducted a search and found more 9mm rounds of ammunition, 140 Boss Mandrax tablets, dagga and 364 straws of Tik with a weight of 159 grams. The drug find is estimated at a value of approximately R62 715.00.
The 27-year-old man is currently in detention at the Plettenberg Bay police holding cells and is expected to make his court appearance in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court tomorrow, 02 November 2020, once being charged. He faces charges of possession of a unlicensed firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, the unlawful possession of drugs (Mandrax, Tik and Dagga).
