Port Elizabeth: Two suspects aged 26 and 27 years were arrested hours after an alleged hijacking took place in Bucwa Street in Kwanobuhle yesterday, 9 November 2020.
It is alleged at about 13:40, the 58-year-old complainant was driving his jikeleza taxi, a Toyota Corolla when two males got into the car. He was then pointed with a firearm and at some point he was thrown out of the vehicle.
The vehicle’s tracker was activated and the vehicle’s movements were being monitored. At about 17:35 SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team members and crime prevention members picked up the vehicle’s movements in the Motherwell area. When the vehicle stopped at the Dumbrodi informal settlement near Kirkwood, members swooped in on the suspects. Three males were seen walking away from the vehicle. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were pointed out and were arrested. A toy gun was also confiscated. The value of the recovered vehicle is R45 000.
They are detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. Investigators will be probing any possible link to the hijacking. They are expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ court soon.
