POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has welcomed the life sentence handed down by the Polokwane Regional Court, to Phahlamohlake Kutso Mothibi aged 26 for raping a 21-year-old woman during 2017.
The sentencing comes after the incident that occurred on 29 January 2017 at about 18:00.The accused was on the same dancing team with the victim, on that day. They were practicing their dancing moves at the usual old building in Malatane village when the accused requested the victim to go and buy him drinks. The accused followed her outside and suddenly, he started threatening to kill her and dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her. He thereafter left her there and disappeared.
The victim ran back to the dancing spot and informed her friends about the rape incident and the matter was immediately reported to the police.
The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Phakiso Sandra Gololo of the Saps Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The investigating officer worked tirelessly by following all the leads until the accused was nabbed and positively linked to this incident.
The Provincial Commissioner has also commended the member (investigating officer) for discharging her duties with full determination until the accused was nabbed and subsequently served with a long jail term.
