PORT ELIZABETH – Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 28-year-old male after he allegedly shot himself in his upper leg this morning, 23 November 2020 in eZinyoka in Kwadwesi.
It is alleged that at about 10:00, AGU responded to a complaint of a shooting in Slovo Street. On arrival, the community beckoned them to a shack where a 30-year-old male resides. It is further alleged that the suspect entered the shack and as he pointed him with a firearm, a shot went off.
The suspect injured himself in his left upper leg. The complainant managed to overpower him and remove the firearm. A 9mm pistol (serial number filed off) and 8 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
The suspect was taken to hospital. A case of possession of prohibited firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, pointing of a firearm and attempted murder is under investigation.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
