FREE STATE – Jacques Niell Van Der Merwe (55), Deon Van Vuuren (34), Annamarie Magdalene Van Vuuren (36) have been sentenced on charges of fraud, whilst the trial continues against their co-accused, namely Deon Dewald Van Vuuren (49), Madise Tello David (43) on charges of Fraud and Corruption in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu respectively.
During November 2018, information was operationalised after intelligence was obtained regarding several suspects who were involved in selling backdated medical certificates.
Several sting operations were conducted where the suspects sold backdated medical certificates to undercover operatives.
The accused appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday. Jacques Niell van der Merwe, Deon van Vuuren and Annamarie Magdalene van Vuuren were sentenced to 24 months wholly suspended for 5 years each. Accused 5 turned state witness and will testify against accused 4. The case has been postponed to 11 January 2021
