NORTHERN CAPE – Johan Breedt (51),Mattheus Adriaan Burger (62), Josua Meyer (54) and a juristic person (entity) appeared briefly at Postmasburg Magistrate court today on alleged charges of corruption and money laundering.
These charges are allegedly linked to a mining contract estimated at R203 million awarded to a service provider. It is alleged that Mr Breedt, a former mine manager received kickbacks over the period between 2016 to 2017 from a former Burma Plant Hire, (Burma) Chief Executive Officer Mr Burger and Mr Meyer upon receiving a contract .
The alleged kickbacks received amounts to approximately R600 000-00. All suspects were each granted R20 000-00 bail and the case was postponed to 19 February 2021.
