Gauteng Premier David Makhura together with the MEC for Community Safety, Ms Faith Mazibuko on Thursday 03 December 2020, joined the integrated law enforcement agencies under the command of Gauteng Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela as the men and women in uniform flooded the streets of Temba and Hammanskraal.
This past week’s O Kae Molao operations saw the intensified team embark on Operation O Kae Molao to search for illicit goods, enforce Road safety and ensure that residents of the area are and feel safe as the festive season dawns.
Four stolen motor vehicles were recovered at a road block on the R101 between Hammanskraal and Temba. In a parallel intelligence-led operation conducted in Tshwane, eight motor vehicles were recovered while five liquor outlets were closed for non-compliance. Liquor worth more than R100 000 were confiscated and owner arrested.
More than 700 suspects were arrested for serious and violent crimes across the various Districts. Police in Sedibeng arrested 47 suspects while 227 were nabbed in Ekurhuleni, 232 in Johannesburg, 204 in Tshwane and 49 in the West Rand.
During these arrests, 117 suspects were linked to cases of gender based violence and crimes committed against children.
In Johannesburg District, a joint intelligence-led operation between the SAPS, JMPD and City of Joburg (City Power, Fraud and Forensic Unit, Contractors) aluminium electricity cables valued at an estimated R 500 000 were confiscated and subsequently five suspects arrested in Zimimpilo and Crown Mines informal settlements, west of Johannesburg.
In Ekurhuleni District, six mini-buses were impounded at a roadblock after police found that they were operated illegally. Furthermore, a suspect was arrested when the car he was driving was confirmed as recently stolen in Olievenhoutbosch. Four additional suspects were arrested for possession of drugs.
All arrested suspects will appear in various Gauteng magistrates’ courts in due course.
