WESTERN CAPE – An intelligence driven operation by members of the Anti-Gang Unit on Thursday afternoon at about 13:25 saw the arrest of a Namibian male for the possession of uncut diamonds in the parking area of a shopping centre in Worcester. The members received information about a red Toyota Corolla with one of the occupants that are in possession of diamonds. The information was followed up and the vehicle and the occupants were searched. A total of six uncut diamonds were found in possession of one of the occupants.
The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
In an unrelated matter the vigilance by members of Operation Restore led to the arrest of a 23-year-old male on Thursday evening at about 20:40 in Lilian Ngoyi Street, Samora Machel shortly after a vehicle hijacking took place. The members were busy with crime prevention duties when the vehicle was spotted. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee from police in order to evade arrest but collided with a brick wall. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and was apprehended with the victim’s personal belongings.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
