Hello, I think it is perhaps too early to read anything seriously through small trifle things. Instead, as you have suggested some parallel signals can be given to take some clues.
But I must say from my experience that rather than a boy, girls play around much. To this extent, of course, I am inclined to believe that your boy seems not quite seriously involved with you. Boys do not like to play around and make themselves easily loud enough to be listened.
In my case with a lady, I am always wondering whether I am flirting with her and she is playing around! Yet, I am sure we are seriously involved in a relationship that may blossom up but not beyond casual because we are too old to abandon our spouses!
