The South African Police Service in Limpopo, continue acquiring heavy sentences, sending criminals involved in the most despicable acts including rapes and sexual assaults to long jail terms. This is achieved through the expertise and hard work of the Detectives.
This after two rapists were this week given long jails terms by the Phalaborwa Regional Court, for rape incidents committed in the Namakgale policing area, between 2012 and 2014.
Mashoko Livhuwani aged 34, was convicted of two counts of rapes that took place during separate incidents. The accused was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping 7-year-old girl and 51-year-old woman.
On the 12th December 2012 at about 14h30, a 7-year-old girl was on her way to the shops when she was grabbed by the accused who then threatened her with a knife and dragging her to the nearest bushes. He then raped her but the little girl managed to free herself and ran home who reported the matter to the Police.
The accused continued with his heinous acts the next year when he raped a 51-year-old woman on her way from late entertainment on 2014-10-10 at about 20h00. The victim was about to enter her home when she was attacked by the accused. He covered her mouth and forced her to the bushes and raped her.
In both incidents, the suspect was unknown and the cases were allocated to the Saps Phalaborwa Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) Unit. The accused was successfully traced and arrested on 2017-01-17, after he was positively linked to both cases.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from a village outside Phalaborwa was sentenced to an effective 15 years imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter during 2012.The accused targeted the victim at night while the mother was away and raped her in the bedroom until the ordeal was exposed and reported to the Police.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers, has welcomed these sentences on both hands and commended the Detectives especially the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for their professionalism and dedication, which led to the convictions and effective sentencing of these heartless criminals.
