Swift reaction from Public Order Policing members resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old gang member and the recovery of a firearm and ammunition this morning.
It is alleged that at about 11:00 this morning, the complainant (30) and a friend were standing in front of the house Flamelily Street in Sanctor when they saw 4 unknown males walking in the street. They approached them and enquired where they lived. The complainant then threw a stone at the dog that was with the males. One of them pulled out a firearm and fired a shot at him. No one sustained any injuries.
At the same time, POP members were patrolling in Standford Road when they heard the sound of a gunshot. Immediately after that, they noticed four males running in an open field. The members chased after them and managed to apprehend 3 of them. They were assisted by the Anti-Gang Unit members. On searching the field, an AGU member found a pistol and six rounds of ammunition.
The suspect that fired was positively identified. He was detained on a charge of attempted murder, possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
