On Monday, the country was busy celebrating the amazing Miss Universe win by Zozibini Tunzi. However, on Wednesday some of people were furious at an old footage of the SABC 3 ‘Presenter Search’ competition that included Basetsana Kumalo and Zozibini Tunzi. Some of the people thought that, the former Miss South Africa was just jealous of zozibini Tunzi because she seemed to be tough on the Miss Universe when she was a contestant on the show.
One tweep says, “Basetsana was deeply condescending to Zozi in that interview. Even the projection of her voice is set to tell Zozi “You’ll never be me”…I’m so disappointed.” One tweep says, “I am not surprised by Basetsana’sbehaviour, it’s on brand with older black women. She missed an opportunity to embrace Zozi. Their Miss South Africa journeys are reminiscent of each other and that could have been a deliberate conversation but she chose to be condescending, tsi!” One tweep says, “This attitude here…I why Basetsana Khumalo lost me long ago!!! She has changed so much…Well I’m sure now she remembers Zozi’s name.”
Other tweeps stood up for Basetsana Khumalo explaining that the video recording was from an old video footage from a competition. One tweep says, “So now Basetsana Khumalo is going to get dragged because someone failed to provide context and people are always ready to drag…” One tweep says, “…Basetsana was tough on Zozibini because that was an actual Presenter Search competition. What y’all are saying now is just too much!” One tweep says, “I’ve watched that presenter search for two seasons now, and the acting guests job is to make it as difficult as possible for the presenter, to obviously test their presenting skills…” The production company owner congratulated Zozibini for her recent win on Instagram.
