Black Twitter Divided Over Masechaba Ndlovu Insurance Partnership #KeBoPheloBaka. Masechaba ndlovu went on to introduce an insurance plan for victims of violence and other sorts of crime.
Masechaba ndlovu went on to introduce an insurance plan for victims of violence and other sorts of crime. The media personality partnered with ‘my personal lifeline’ in the creation of the insurance, which includes covers for victims of gender-based violence. The initiative might have come from a good place when Masechaba Ndlovu launched it but some think that she was just chasing money.
Black Twitter had different reactions to the launch of the insurance titled ‘Ke Bophelo Baka’. Some tweeps feel as if the media personality just wants to make money off of victims. One tweep says, “I need help thinking through why Masechaba’s brand of Gender Based activism is not only crass but incredibly dangerous and toxic for the women she claims she wants to help.” One tweep says, “Masechaba’s GBV ‘activism” is less about helping victims and more about helping herself, to the point of disregarding the needs & safety of actual victims. If her ambushing Babes Wodumo w/o consent didn’t make that obvious this GBV insurance should.”
Even though some people didn’t like the insurance that Masechaba Ndlovu came up with, others stood up for the media personality. One tweep says, “People will always complain if they don’t like you, whatever you do, they will always find a reason to criticize, Masechaba must do what feels right for her, there are people who already joined and are going to pay every month without complaining.” One tweep says, “Nothing wrong with Masechaba Ndlovu’s medical aid or whatever it is. All insurers profit from our fears/pain. We wouldn’t bat an eyelid if 1Life or Hollard sold the same concept. More black SA women must take up space in the insurance/medical aid business.”
