The families of the recent Sunday episode of Mzansi Magic’s ‘Date My Family’ seemed to be interested in the physical features of the bachelorette from the beginning. The bachelorette was 25-year-old Sibongile, she works in client services. The first family she met was Phumzile’s family, where she got a rose on her arrival.
The bachelorette was happy for the gift that she got. When they asked her how her baby daddy feels about her dating women, she told them that he doesn’t know because they both live their own lives. The family members and the potential date were not satisfied with the bachelorette’s answer. She was concerned by the family members always being around the potential date’s place. She also seemed to have a problem with one of the family members, according to the members. The second family she met was Kershia’s family. They asked her if she dating a woman is just a phase for her.
She replied by saying that the only reason she would date a man is because it’s the right thing to do based on her having a child and her family. She then said involving family in a relationship might make it toxic. One family member thought that she seems like the bossy type. The last family she met was Siyasanga’s family which involves Buhle from the famous acapella group ‘The Soil’. She asked them what category the potential date is in the lesbian sexuality, the family then felt awkward because of the question. The family members were also a bit sceptical about the bachelorette. She ended up going with Phumzile.
Black Twitter had a problem with the bachelorette. One tweep says, “I don’t think Sibongile is certain about her sexuality…she sounds so confused…” One tweep says, “I’m sorry but I don’t think Sibongile is lesbian, let alone bi. I think she’s had a rough & unsatisfactory time with men & now she’s experimenting, which if it is indeed the case it perpetuates the misconception that sexual orientation is a choice! So wrong!” One tweep says, “Sibongile is window shopping through this lesbianism. You can tell it won’t last…”
