In 2019 DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small had a song about a soccer player, Lorch, that had people all over South Africa bumping it. The song received a lot of traction from the fans, so it seemed like it would be a proper time to make a music video of the ‘Lorch’ tack. However, the music video was not to the standards that was expected by the fans.
The Black Twitter fans weren’t so happy with the DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small music video. One tweep says, “just watched ‘Lorch’ music video and what confuses me is seeing half-naked people, hubbly and alcohol. How’s it related to the song…I just lost interest.” Another tweep says, “My thoughts exactly…they don’t even show the actual person they are singing about. My brother also asked me who is Lorch imagine.” One tweep says, “This Lorch music video could have been more cooler with Thembinkosi Lorch featuring as well.”
One tweep used a sports anecdote. “Lorch was benched the whole music video,” says the tweep. One tweep says, “Lorch…this music video [makes] me laugh…I thought Lorch was there too with Kabza [De] Small.” Some tweeps just outright referred to it as ‘trash’. “Lorch music video is trash…,” says one tweep. One tweep says, “I thought I was the only [one] who believed [that] Lorch music video is trash. Audio is not even in proper sync with the visuals…”
