Black Twitter Reacts To Fikile Mbalula’s Public Statement About The Taxis And The Coronavirus #Coronavirussouthafrica. On Monday, all Ministers went on to brief the representatives of the media about the steps that they have taken based on the coronavirus outbreak.
On Monday, all Ministers went on to brief the representatives of the media about the steps that they have taken based on the coronavirus outbreak. The one that most people focused on was the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula. The minister said that the aviation industry is the one that is mostly impacted by the coronavirus, stating that frontline staff of ACSA airports have been given masks for protection.
Minister Fikile Mbalula also stated that all passenger busses will need more cleaning service. He then stated that random tests will be done at taxi ranks and that taxis will need to be sanitized. However, Twitter wasn’t convinced by the minister’s statement on the matter of the virus in the transport industry. One tweep says, “Fikile Mbalula says taxis and trains will be sanitized and random testing will be done. We all know that that’s only good on paper.” One tweep says, “[It’s] ok to say Mbalula and his team they don’t have plans.”
“Mbalula and his team have no plan and its clear from his speech,” says one tweep. One tweep says, “Infection control efforts at airports sounds pretty decent, but Fikile Mbalula is not reassuring on getting public transport safe for commuters. Question is, could it be? Safe? Sanitising a taxi everyday might not cut it…”
