Black Twitter Reacts To Herman Mashaba’s Resignation As Joburg Mayor. Herman Mashaba has resigned as the Democratic Alliance’s mayor of Johannesburg on Monday.
Herman Mashaba has resigned as the Democratic Alliance’s mayor of Johannesburg on Monday. He publicised his resignation at a press conference. His choice comes after the election of the former Western Cape premier Helen Zille as the DA’s federal council chair. He has indicated that the election of the former Western Cape premier was the reason for his decision.
He states that its the supposed win by those in the Democratic Alliance who have largely been against his pro-poor policies. He states that he is not one to give up, especially as a businessman who has had successful businesses in the apartheid era. He states that there was a divide within the party that has been against policies and has cost him backing for his work as the mayor of Johannesburg for the former three years. He stated that he is choosing his country over his party.
