The body of a 67-year-old Port Elizabeth man was found by his gardener in his house on a smallholding in Rocklands this morning.
It is alleged that on Monday morning, 29 April 2019 at about 08:40, the gardener came in and as per routine went to the shed to get ready for work. He noticed that his bicycle was not there and he went to the house to make enquiries. The door and security gate was opened and after receiving no response from calling out the owner, he returned to the yard. The gardener became suspicious when the owner didn’t come out and he went back to the door, calling out his name. After no response, he went inside and found the owner lying on the living room floor with his hands and feet bound. There was also a wound on his head. The gardener ran to the neighbour’s house for help. Police was summoned.
The house was ransacked and the safe opened. It is unclear at this stage what was taken. Next of kin still to be notified. He lived alone. Police are investigating a case of murder and house robbery.
Police are appealing to the community to assist in their investigation and if anyone can provide information about the suspect/s, D/Captain Chris Rowan from the Mount Road Cluster Detective Trio Task Team may be contacted on 082 442 1457.
