KWAZULU-NATAL – An operation was conducted this morning at 05:00 by the Provincial Firearm and Drug Unit at Fakazi area in Illovu.
The focus of the operation was to remove illegal firearms. The team swooped on a homestead where a search was conducted. A 41-year-old man was found in possession of firearms and three rounds of ammunition.
The team proceeded to another homestead where a 25-year-old suspect was placed under arrest after he was found in possession of a firearm with four rounds of ammunition. Both suspects were placed under arrest for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They are expected to appear this morning in the Amanzimtoti Magistrates Court.
In another unrelated operation in Gingindlovu, the King Cetshwayo Cluster Task Team arrested three suspects aged between 27 and 36 for possession of unlicensed firearms. The suspects were arrested yesterday at Ezimpongo and Embizimbelwe areas in Gingindlovu. The suspects were found in possession of two revolvers and a home-made shotgun. A total of 74 rounds of ammunition were also seized from the arrested suspects. The suspects are appearing at the Mtunzini Magistrates Court today for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
