Businessman and owner of Sam Holdings, Sam Mshengu has been apprehended by the Hawks in Emalahleni in Mpumalanga. The arrest was due to the Department of Home Affairs’ examination into the owner of Sam Holdings’ citizenship status in South Africa. There were reports that suggest that the businessman might be from Zimbabwe, it was also alleged that he got his citizenship fraudulently.
People got to notice the businessman when he was behind one of the biggest convoys filled with supercars. The vehicles were all heading to the 2019 Durban July. The businessman told people about his life on Power FM alongside Aldrin Sampear. He told people that he was from Makwarela in Venda, Limpopo. He also went on to speak about the hardships that he was brought up in. He spoke about how his father passed away in the Democratic Republic of Congo when he was shot as a soldier.
He also went on to say that he had to drop out of school when he was still an 11-year-old child because his family was struggling. He then worked on an orange farm in Limpopo as a farmer. He earned the employer’s trust and was then taken to the trucking department of the organisation. That’s where he learned about logistics and trucks, which sparked his interest. Some tweeps were frustrated by the actions of the Hawks towards the owner of Sam Holdings.
One tweep says, “Zim national or not, Sam Holdings employed a lot of South [Africans] under his legit business. Its worrying how quick we are [to] celebrate each other’s fall. When all is said & done, I hope his papers [are] found t be in order so he can carry on making that paper & rewriting the script.” One tweep says, “The only thing they could find on Sam Holdings is that hommie’s citizenship is fraudulent. Do you understand that they’ve probably been digging at every possible loop hole but to no avail?! Come for his papers?” Some tweeps say that he gained attention because of his Durban July convoy. One tweep says, “Akere Sam Holdings wanted attention…now he’s got a whole lot of it.”
