EASTERN CAPE – A well-coordinated team effort by role players that included Tactical response team, Crime Intelligence, DPCI Detectives and Kokstad detectives helped avert a Cash In Transit resulting in arrests and recovery of illegal weapons.
Information was received about a Fidelity cash van that was going to be robbed of millions of pension and child support grant which was going to be delivered at Flagstaff Post Office and other areas.
On 09 July 2020 at about 03h30 members of Tactical response team deployed in Qumbu spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that was going to be used in the cash in transit robbery travelling from Magusheni towards Phakade, near Kokstad. Tactical Response team deployed at Bityi was also mobilized for back and they responded.
The vehicle was stopped and searched and two firearms and ammunition were recovered.
Four male suspects aged 34, 40, 45, and 51 were arrested and charged for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition.
A follow up was conducted and members proceeded to Kokatad where an identified address at Shayamoya was searched. Information was positive and arrests were made for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs were recovered.
Two suspects, a female suspect aged 34-year-old and a male aged 40 were charged for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well dealing in drugs.
