The Catholic Church started examining two nuns who vowed to be celibate. It was reported that the nuns came back to Italy pregnant after they went on a missionary trip. ANSA reports that the two ladies from two different sectors in Sicily went to Africa together.
One of the ladies found out about her pregnancy when she went to hospital with stomach pains, according to ANSA. The New York post reports that the 34-year-old was sent to a different order in Palermo and may leave the nun life so that she could raise the baby. The other lady went to her home nation, Madagascar, after she was stated to be about one-month pregnant, reports ANSA. A source from the church told ‘The Sun’ that “They both breached strict rules of chastity but the welfare of their children is uppermost.”
In February, Pope Francis stated that some of the people in the clergy have sexually assaulted nuns, also using the nuns as sexual slaves. The pope confirmed the scandal at a press conference , he reportedly stated that the sexual assault of the nuns was still ongoing, mostly in new churches. Women Church World, a Vatican lady’s magazine, stated that in some instances nuns were coerced in getting rid of the children they have conceived from priests. The Catholic religion doesn’t accept abortion.
