Chaos Erupts Because Of Drunk Beachgoers in Durban. The Durban beach is the area where a lot of people like to go to enjoy the December festivities.
The Durban beach is the area where a lot of people like to go to enjoy the December festivities. However, this long weekend has been quite chaotic one for some people. A lot of dangerous activity occurred at the Durban beach due to drunk beachgoers. A Durban Solid Waste employee and a metro police official were attacked in two different instances.
A student traffic warden was also impacted by a driver at the beach. Msawakhe Mayisela, the eThekwini municipal spokesperson, says the instances were shocking and embarrassing. On Sunday a Durban Solid Waste employee was attacked while cleaning a place close to Blue Lagoon. The employee’s car keys were taken when he tried to get back to his car. The eThekwini municipal spokesperson says, “Metro police had given chase, but were unable to apprehend the person due to the large crowds they had to manoeuvre through.”
Then on Monday, an allegedly intoxicated driver got into a car and impacted a student traffic warden. The lady then impacted two other cars. The lady was apprehended by officials. Msawakhe Mayisela says, “She was arrested and detained, and a case of drunken negligent driving has been opened.” The third instance happened when a metro police official was attacked by three guys when he arrest them for allegedly drinking in public. The guys have been apprehended.
The eThekwini municipality spokesperson says beachgoers need to know that the law officials at the area are not there to frustrate them. “Officers of the law are there to maximise the safety of our residents and tourists. The challenge is that people are not heeding the messages to not consume alcohol. Anyone can see that for them to behave in that fashion, they are being influenced by alcohol,” says the eThekwini municipal spokesperson.
