The City of Joburg has been on a mission to stop any illegal activities in the Central Business District of Johannesburg. Yesterday, they announced that they returned 44 hijjacked properties to their rightful owners, today they are on a mission of confiscating counterfeit goods. They are working alongside the City of Joburg Group Forensic and Investigation Service.
Within their process of raiding, they confiscated 15 Rolex watches that were sold for R1500 each. The original Rolex watches are valued at about R100 000 each. This would make the total cost of the watches be at the value of R22 500. They have also taken away other fake products under the name of high-end products such as Casio, Michael Kors, Rado and Apple. Daily Sun released a video recording of custom officials examining the products at a store in Dragon City. There were other products that were confiscated such as fake bags and cosmetics. They also apprehended the shop owners that were selling fake goods. Mavela Masondo, the Gauteng police spokesperson, says, “We are continuing with our operation to get rid of counterfeit goods in our country.”
Some of the tweeps reacted to the City of Joburg and the officials that are involved in the confiscating of the counterfeit products. One tweep jokingly says, “Police must leave no stone unturned when raiding Dragon City in Fordsburg. They must confiscate all the fake Brazilian wigs we have been made to pay an arm and a leg by our better halves. It couldn’t have [come] at a better time prior to December. Chiskop will do…” One tweep was worried about getting curtains. The tweep jokingly says, “Eish you see now…Where am I supposed to get my curtains now??? Dragon city is the plug!!!”
