On Thursday, robbers got hold of a cash-in-transit vehicle in Pretoria. However, the most frightening thing was what happened after the vehicle was robbed. Civilians also went in their numbers to steal some money from the vehicle. The incident was recorded by one person who was there and posted on the Intelligence Bureau SA Facebook page.
The video has been making rounds on the internet. Lieutenant-Colonel Brenda Muridili, the police spokesperson, says the car was ambushed when it was leaving the Belle Ombre Plaza, in Marabastad, around 6pm. People with weapons fired at the vehicle from multiple cars. The shots brought the car to a stop says the police spokesperson. The men then opened the safe and took an undisclosed amount of cash. According to the police spokesperson they also went away with one of the guards’ weapon.
Brenda Murildi says, “Immediately after the suspects fled the scene, just before the metro police cordoned off the scene, there was some looting. We strongly condemn that, as anyone found with the looted bank notes can be arrested for contaminating the crime scene and theft.” No apprehensions have been made and no person was hurt at the heist.
