The commitment of police officers to eradicate the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the Western Cape, yielded success on Thursday, 15 July 2021. Intelligence driven information was pursued in Gugulethu. At about 17:30, police members called for backup, after they noticed the suspicious vehicle that fitted the description. Two 9mm firearms and ammunition were found in the vehicle. The occupants aged 25, 28 and 31 were arrested and detained.
Meanwhile, integrated forces was called to diffuse an argument which erupted on the N2 at about 17: 30. Upon arrival, the members searched a vehicle parked next to the highway. Three suspects were arrested and detained when three firearms were found in their possession.
In an unrelated matter at about 22:40, police members were busy conducting stop and search operations near to Tabulele Street in Khayelitsha when they stopped and searched a Toyota Avanza. The driver was found to be in possession of 9 mm pistol. The suspect was arrested and detained
These suspects was arrested as they could not provide valid licences to be in possession of the mentioned firearms
Once charged they will appear in separate Magistrates courts on charges of possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition
