A driver rammed into a police van that was patrolling close to Mfuleni in Cape Town. The vehicle hurt two people, suspected to be hijackers, in the back seat of the car that the driver was using. Andre Traut, police spokesperson, says police officials were busy policing the area on Saturday when they were crashed by another car out of nowhere close to Mfuleni.
Two of the alleged hijackers were apprehended and the police officials seized a 9mm pistol and a shotgun, according to the police spokesperson. The man was being hijacked in a Toyota Avanza at Khayelitsha. “The victim was hijacked by four suspects and was forced to drive his vehicle on the instruction of the hijackers. In Old Faure Road in Mfuleni, the victim spotted a police vehicle on patrol and deliberately collided in to draw the attention of the SAPS members,” says Andre Traut.
Three police officials and two hijackers were hurt in the process. Two of the hijackers got the chance to run away while the two that were hurt were apprehended. The ones that were arrested are currently being watched by the police while they are in hospital, they will also be due in court soon. Its allegedly stated that hijackers aim Toyota Avanzas for crimes in other places and in other townships the car is used as a taxi. The police spokesperson says the taxi association doesn’t know of the Toyota Avanza that was hijacked, they also don’t know if the person driving was the owner or a person working.
