DURBAN – Yesterday at 16:00, an operation was conducted at Empangeni by the various units and stations under King Cetshwayo District.
Whilst members were busy, they have received information about a suspect who was wanted for a case of attempted murder that was committed at Ncekwane Reserve. It is alleged that on 18 August 2020 at 20:05, a 25-year-old man was shot and wounded by a known suspect. He sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital. The suspects’ vehicle was spotted on the N2 freeway and the police attempted to stop the vehicle but the suspect sped off.
A chase ensued between the police and the suspect and the suspect drove over the tollgate and damaged the boom gate at the Mtunzini Toll Plaza before crashing into a guard rail. The suspect alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby bushes. A search was conducted in the bush and the suspect was apprehended. Upon searching further, a firearm was also recovered. A 35-year-old suspect is appearing before the Mtunzini Magistrates Court today on charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the police officers for the arrest of the suspect.
