DURBAN – Operations to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms were conducted in the early hours of today by police officers in the province. The operations led to the arrest of three men aged between 34 and 56 and the recovery of five firearms with a total of 37 rounds of ammunition.
A 40-year-old man was arrested at A Section in Folweni after he was found with two pistols with 21 rounds of ammunition. He was charged for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He is appearing at the Nsimbini Magistrates Court today.
Police also arrested a 56-year-old man at Mambuka Reserve in the Ntambanana policing precinct for possession of a firearm and ammunition after he was found with a pistol loaded with nine rounds of ammunition. He is appearing at the Ngwelezane Magistrates Court today. Another pistol with seven rounds of ammunition was recovered from a vacant homestead at Mambuka.
A 34-year-old man who was arrested at Skhemelele Reserve in Emanguzi and is appearing today at the KwaNgwanase Magistrates Court. He was found with a pistol in his possession and he was immediately apprehended.
The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya commended the police officers for the arrests and accentuated that similar operations are continuing.
