DURBAN – In the early hours of today at 03:00, Durban Central SAPS police officers responded to a complaint of burglary on Beatrice Street in the Durban CBD. Upon arrival at the scene, the police noticed that the shop roller door had been cut.
The team tactically entered the business premise to investigate. Whilst they were inside the premise, the suspect was found looking for an escape route. A 34-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for burglary. He is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
In another incident on 07 October 2020 at 21:00, police officers from Durban Central SAPS were conducting patrols on Broad Street when they noticed two females who were looking for an assistance. The police officers approached the females and upon interviewing them it was ascertained that one of them was raped. They proceeded to Durban Central with the victim and a case of rape was opened. The victim alleged that she was raped by one of the suspects while the other assisted the rapist by grabbing her arms.
A description of the suspects were given to the police officers and they conducted patrols at the identified areas. Two suspects aged 29 and 32 were located on St Georges Street and were placed under arrest. The pair will appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya commended the police officers for the arrest of the suspects.
