DURBAN – A joint operation was conducted at Umzinto policing precinct yesterday. The team was searching for three suspects who were wanted for charges of fraud.
Three suspects aged between 30 and 40 were placed under arrest in Umzinto. It is alleged on 05 November 2019, a total of nine fraudulent claims were submitted to an insurance company for processing and payment after the insured person had passed on. The claims were fraudulent and manipulated by the suspects. The total amount of R2,4 million was awaiting to be paid when it was established that the documents were fraudulent.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had no insurable interest in the deceased but it was for personal gain. The suspects were arrested after warrants of arrests were issued by the court. The suspects appeared before the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court today. The suspects Thasveer Bobbie (30), Nirvana Paparam (40) and Nirasha Rampal (38) were each granted bail of R10 000-00 each. The matter was remanded to 16 November 2020.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded the team for the arrest of the fraudsters.
